We are a community of people who hold the Pauline Order close to our heart and therefore want to participate in the Order’s mission, charism, and spirituality.

The aim of the Community of Blessed Eusebius is to prayerfully support the Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit in all of its activities. Constant prayer for the Pauline monastery creates a special bond between the members of the Community and the Order, as well as spiritual participation in its apostolic mission. A sense of responsibility for the work carried out by the Order makes all those who pray in the Community considered true friends of the Pauline Order.

The members of the Community devote special prayers and intentions in matters of vocations to the Order and the entire work of religious formation: among young people who discern the vocation, novices, seminarians, and junior brothers.

The Community supports all Pauline Fathers and Brothers, asking God for perseverance for them in calling them to live the Pauline charism so that being “alone with God” in the desert of their own hearts they will make the Order’s apostolate fruitful.

Each member of the Community makes the commitment to pray on one chosen day each month. Everyone determines the form of their prayer themselves.

In addition to praying with the Order and for the Order, we also care for formation that builds a personal spiritual life based on Pauline spirituality and tradition.

There are also the parents and families of Pauline Father and Brothers among us.  Their presence makes our Community truly one big family and allows us to see that they have a specially close relationship to the Pauline Order.

Blessed Eusebius is recognized, alongside St. Paul I Hermit, as the most important figure in the history of our Order. He gave the shape to our Pauline community by organizing hermits scattered in the forests along the Danube River in Hungary, into one religious community. Let’s review the path of the man who ignited others with love for Christ and led them into the desert to be alone with God…

The Principles of the Community

I. The aim of the Community of Blessed Eusebius is to support the Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit in prayer in all its activities. Constant prayer for Pauline Fathers and Brothers creates a special bond between the members of the Community and the Order and is a form of spiritual participation in its apostolic mission. A sense of responsibility for the work carried out by the Order makes all those who pray in the Community true friends of the Order. Members of the Community take special care of the following prayer intentions:

1. Vocations to the Pauline Order, and the whole work of religious formation: including young people who discern their vocation, novices, seminarians, and brothers on temporary vows.

2. All Pauline monks, asking God for perseverance in calling them to live the Pauline charism, so that their being “alone with God, alone” in the desert of their own hearts would make the Order’s apostolate fruitful.

II. The moderator responsible for the Community is the Father appointed by decree of the General of the Pauline Order and has the following responsibilities:

1. Coordination of the initiatives undertaken with the General Superior, to whom he reports on his ministry every year.

2. Concern for the formal/organizational and spiritual realization of the community’s tasks.

III. The Community carries out its mission in smaller groups led by persons who are selected on the basis of precedent, that is, in the order of admission to the Community. This rule does not apply if a given group has been assigned a pastor by religious authorities or a moderator. The above procedure applies to individual groups arising in countries, provinces of the Order, monasteries, or wherever even a few people gather to pray together.

IV. Joining the Community takes place through the declaration of permanent prayer on one chosen day each month. Withdrawal from the Community takes place through the delivery of the decision to withdraw.

V. A person joining the Community determines the form of his prayer on the day he chooses. It is worth recommending leading a life in sanctifying grace, receiving the sacraments, especially the Eucharist on the day of prayer for the Order. Other forms are also recommended, such as praying the rosary and certain penitential practices or works of mercy.

VI. In addition to praying on one chosen day of the month, which is the basic obligation, members of the Community also undertake prayer on days that are especially important for the Order: Solemnity of St. Paul the First Hermit, January 15; Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, March 25; Solemnity of Our Lady of Czestochowa, August 26; and on the days, when the Pauline Brothers make their religious vows, renew them, or receive ordinations.

VII. The patron of the community is Blessed Eusebius of Esztergom, the founder of the Pauline Order.

VIII. The patronal feast of the Community in the memory of Blessed Eusebius is on January 20.

1. Members of the Community also pray for one another. In this way, they remain in spiritual unity, constantly standing before God.

2. The members of the Community inform the moderator about the death of its members so that all can pray for eternal life for them. A priceless gift is the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass for the intention of the deceased person.

PRAYER THROUGH

THE INTERCESSION OF BLESSED EUSEBIUS OF ESZTERGOM

Almighty God, Our Father, admirable in all of Your saints, and Holy in all of Your works;

throughout history You chose Your faithful servants and Your trusted friends,

to implement Your salvific plans and guide them in the right path toward fulfilling the Church’s mission.

We give thanks to You, O Lord, for the love which You showed toward Your servant,

Eusebius, the zealous priest of Esztergom, by pouring out into his heart the love of solitude.

You, O Lord, inspired blessed Eusebius to combine contemplation with an apostolic deed,

and the spirit of the desert, with the community of religious life. You, O Lord, made Eusebius

the founder and organizer of a religious community under the patronage of Saint Paul the First Hermit.

May the splendor of the virtues with which the blessed Eusebius shone on earth, especially humility and prudence,

mercy and purity of heart, devotion, and love of prayer, remind our brothers of the call toward their holiness.

May blessed Eusebius’ virtues remind us about the beginnings and inspirations of the venerable inheritance of the Fathers.

Grant O Lord, that all Pauline Fathers and Brothers, looking at the example of their Founder,

under the protection of Mary, Mother of the Pauline Order and Queen of the Hermits,

united in one with the Holy Cross, would make a happy pilgrimage in regards to their faith and hope,

along with all the people entrusted to their apostolic care and Your home in Heaven. Amen.
